Sugary drinks are notorious for empty calories that provide you with little to no vitamins, minerals, calcium, protein or nutritional value, often leaving you feeling more thirsty and hungry. In fact these drinks are linked to numerous health problems such as obesity, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, cavities and weak bones.
A recent study showed that people who drink 1-2 servings of sugary drinks per day are 26% more likely to develop type 2 diabetes than those who never have sugary drinks. A disease that used to affect only adults has now become a concern in children due to child obesity rates rising from 5% to 17% within the last 30 years.
The easiest thing to do to eliminate these risks is replace your sugary drink with a serving of water. Adding some lemon, lime or cucumber to your water may give you that extra burst of flavor you are looking for.
